Career Highlights

Jamal is as strong as an ox and can play either the power forward or center position. Jamal has a very high basketball IQ and is a true team player. Jamal is a leader, and with him on your team you are sure to have a winning team. Jamal possesses the post moves to score inside with anyone, but he can also step out and knock down the 15-20 foot jump shot. After playing at Cal and Duke, Jamal had a successful season in Turkey.

Jamal as a Senior (2009-10): Second team All-Pac-10, career field-goal percentage of 54.7 ranks fourth all time in school history, had eight double-doubles on the season, 14 for his career, after posting 13 points and 11 rebounds against Duke in the NCAA Tournament. He then earned a career-high five assists against Louisville. Jamal in his senior year was first on the team in rebounding with an average of 6.7 rpg, and second in free throw percentage (86.3 percent). Jamal also during his college career at Cal created 44 drawings of President Obama and showcased them in an art exhibit during the offseason.

At Duke Jamal made an appearance against LSU in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, played eight minutes against Seton Hall in the NIT Season Tip-Off for his collegiate debut, scoring four points and grabbing a pair of offensive rebounds. Jamal transferred from Duke to Cal for family reasons.

Jamal attended Fairfax HS in Los Angeles. Boykin was named the Gatorade state Player of the Year after averaging 22 ppg, 12 rpg, 4 bpg and 5 apg as a senior at Fairfax HS in 2005, selected as a third-team Parade All-American his senior year, the John Wooden Award winner as the senior Player of the Year in Los Angeles , and a three-time all-city selection.


Jamal Thomas Boykin was born on April 27, 1987, in Los Angeles, CA. His parents are Ruben and Mary Boykin, older brother, Ruben Jr. (played basketball at Northern Arizona and now overseas), also has two older sisters, Desi and Serena. Jamal received his Bachelor of Art in African American studies. Jamal’s favorite basketball player is Horace Grant.
