Ray is a strong versatile guard who can play the SG or SF positions. Bowles has a good frame for the next level. He is a physical slasher who can get to the rim and finish through contact. He has a solid 1st step, and he can use either hand while finishing. He can knock down jump shots as well, especially in the mid-range area. In addition, he is a solid rebounder at both ends of the floor. Bowles was one of the best perimeter defenders in the MWC, and he is willing to sacrifice his own stats for the betterment of the team. Ray is a lock-down defender. On the offensive end Ray can take people off the dribble and get to the basket, post up smaller guards, and knock down the perimeter shot. In his senior season (2017-18) at Fresno St., Byron averaged 11ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1 spg , and 50%FG. Prior to attending Fresno St., Ray played at Pacific for three seasons from 2014-2017. As a junior he started all 33 games and averaged 13.4ppg, 3.7rpg, and 2.7apg. He led Pacific to its first-ever win in the WCC Tournament with a career-high 26 points against Pepperdine.

Ray graduated from Modesto Christian High School and was named the MVP of All-Trans Valley League in 2011-12 and in 2012-13, in addition to Modesto Bee All-District POY both years.

Ray was born on October 26, 1995 in San Jose, CA. His parents are Dorselle and Raymond Bowles. He received his Bachelor of Arts in communications. His favorite basketball player is Dwayne Wade.
